Chioma Nnadi: This is the Run-Through, I'm Chioma Nnadi. Chloe Malle: And I'm Chloe Malle. Welcome to this very special episode of The Run-Through. We are coming at you the morning after fashion's biggest night out, The Met Gala. Derek Blasberg hosted thevogue.com live stream last night from the red carpet. Good morning Derek. Derek Blasberg: Good morning. Chioma Nnadi: Good morning Derek. Chloe Malle: Welcome. Derek Blasberg: Isn't it a good morning? Chloe Malle: It is. Chioma Nnadi: An exciting morning. Derek Blasberg: Um, the... the day after. Chloe Malle: 7 am, it's raining. Chioma Nnadi: The morning after, the brutally early morning after. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: No, I'm here. Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: I'm so thrilled. I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and... and I'm so... I'm so grateful you guys are having me. Chioma Nnadi: Happy to have you. Chloe Malle: Derek hosted the livestream last night. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: With Chloe Fineman. Derek Blasberg: And La La Anthony. Chloe Malle: And La La Anthony. Derek Blasberg: Name a better trio. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: But you were in a little- Chioma Nnadi: So fu- such a fun trio. Chloe Malle: Mm-hmm. Derek Blasberg: We had fun too. There was a comradery and- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: And it was great and you're nervous, are they gonna come, is... is someone gonna be nice? Chioma Nnadi: [laughs]. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Is someone gonna answer that question? Chloe Malle: Who was unexpectedly nice? Derek Blasberg: Do you know who I loved talking to was Glenn Close. Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah, in the Erdem. Chloe Malle: Oh yeah, she looked great in Erdem. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: She kept on calling Erdem, "my young lover". Chioma Nnadi: So fun. Derek Blasberg: As if she was in character from Dangerous Liaisons. Uh, Anne Hathaway is always fun to talk to because she takes fashion so seriously. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: And she explained about how her ensemble made her pose a certain way. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, that's so funny. Derek Blasberg: Like she couldn't do her Annie Hathaway smile when she was dressed like a Karl-inspired Versace temptress. Chloe Malle: Oh, that's so funny. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Wow. Chloe Malle: I love that. Derek Blasberg: Stella McCartney's always like running a fun-wagon at The Met Gala with a gaggle of girls. Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: And so she was coming in hot. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs]. Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: I like Gabriella Hearst's crew. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: She had some girls with her and they all... I think when they come together, there's a lot less- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Pressure and- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: You can tell these... these guys are up for a good time. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: I love to talking to Viola Davis. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: [inaudible 00:01:50]. Derek Blasberg: But she's so regal. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: You sorta go... wanna say, "Who are you wearing Viola?". Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Chioma Nnadi: I thought all the, um... the... the hosts of the stream... the livestream looked incredible. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: You all turned out and it's a nice- Chloe Malle: You had a great, uh, Camellia. Derek Blasberg: I had... that was from Karl. Chloe Malle: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: Really? Derek Blasberg: So as we all know the- Chioma Nnadi: Oh wow! Derek Blasberg: Camellia was, uh, Coco Chanel's favorite flower. Chloe Malle: Mm-hmm. Derek Blasberg: And this one Karl made in a techno-disco-mesh petals. Chloe Malle: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Derek Blasberg: And It was shiny and fabulous. It's interesting because as the, sort of, interviewer on those things, you want to nod to the theme but... and I'm sure we'll get to this momentarily, I wasn't gonna dress up like a cat. Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: You know, you sort of want to do it. Chioma Nnadi: Slow shade already! Shots fired! [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: No because... I mean, I wish. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs]. No, no, no. Derek Blasberg: I mean honestly I... I wish. Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: I looked like Lil Nas X in full cat body glitter. Chioma Nnadi: That I love to hear. That was- Derek Blasberg: Oh honey, that wasn't a dig, that was if anything, like jealous rage. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Jealous rage. Derek Blasberg: That wasn't a slight dig, I li- I wish I could look like that. Chloe Malle: [laughs]. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: Um, but I thought the hosts were good. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: We got there early and- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I loved. Derek Blasberg: I felt bad for some of the girls. Like La La and Chloe who were high, in high heeled shoes. Chioma Nnadi: In, on the concrete. Derek Blasberg: And these, you know, there's a whole army of super chic, sophisticated Vogue girls who are running around, making all that magic happen in Manolos and Louboutins and... and God bless there ankles and pinky toes- Chloe Malle: Mm-hmm. Derek Blasberg: Today because, you know, those dogs are barking. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Yeah. Derek Blasberg: And, um, there was a little bit of a waiting game at the end. Chioma Nnadi: Yes, indeed there was. Derek Blasberg: And then there was a... a catch 22. How long do you keep a livestream- Chioma Nnadi: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: Live? Chloe Malle: Live. Derek Blasberg: If there's a dead carpet? Chioma Nnadi: [laughs]. Derek Blasberg: Uh- Chloe Malle: Did you wait for RiRi? Derek Blasberg: We did. I'll act- Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Chloe Malle: And did she chat with you? Derek Blasberg: She, we actually... and... we ultimately were like, "I don't think we can keep this thing going." Chioma Nnadi: Right. Derek Blasberg: Who's gonna sit here and watch this? Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Also La La, Chloe and I were kind of like, "It's a rap." Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: We gotta ge- we gotta get in there. So, uh, I saw that pictures on my way down here at 6:20 in the morning. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I didn't see her in the- Chloe Malle: What time did she arrive? I don't even... I don't know- Derek Blasberg: There's pictures on the internet of her there. So there was at least one photographer who lingered for her to come down. Um, but, uh, I don't, I don't know if she made it in time to talk to anyone. Chloe Malle: Yeah, Chioma didn't get to see her. Chioma Nnadi: I didn't get to see her and I was heartbroken not to see her, but she looked good in the pictures. Derek Blasberg: She delivered. Chioma Nnadi: I thought her and, and Rocky together just were a beautiful pair and him in the, in the tartan and then- Derek Blasberg: There's a great pictures of Karl Lagerfeld wearing- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: A tartan like that. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, oh so it was a quite nice ohmage then? Derek Blasberg: He wore it a Tokyo show, uh, Tokyo... he wore that to take a bow at a Chanel show in Tokyo and I don't know if maybe that's- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, we'll have to check in on Mathew Hansen on that. Chloe Malle: Yeah, it's true. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. I saw him last night. Derek Blasberg: And of course she was in the elegant... we saw a lot of white dresses, I don't know if that is because- Chloe Malle: Yeah, sort of bridal- Derek Blasberg: Was a monochromatic kind of guy or because the- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I think so. Derek Blasberg: Chanel wedding dress even last month we saw Sophia Richie in a Chanel wedding dress. That is one of the first things that come to mind when you think of Chanel is the- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: The big white dress. So we saw a lot of big white dresses. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: Well, and also, you looked around... was it the Engelhard Court where cocktails were this year? Derek Blasberg: I wouldn't know, Chloe, because I was- Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Asking people what they were wearing, what their favorite memories of Karl were for five hours. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: But you tell me. Where were the cocktails tonight? Chloe Malle: Yes, yes, yes. Uh, you looked around the Engelhard Court and all you saw was black and white. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: No one was wearing color. It was kind of pretty and, and- Chioma Nnadi: It was. Chloe Malle: I mean, Anna must have been furious. But no, no, she's fine. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Anna famously hates- Chioma Nnadi: I mean, there was pale pink. There was pale pink that was very pretty I thought, um- Chloe Malle: There was some pale pink, yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Lila Moss wore pale pink. There were a few- Derek Blasberg: She looked great. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I thought she looked really beautiful. Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Of course Anna famously hates- Chloe Malle: Black. Derek Blasberg: Black. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: But I actually thought black and white, that's an easier way to chicify in a better- Chloe Malle: It really elevated the vibe I have to say. Chioma Nnadi: I have to say too. Derek Blasberg: [inaudible 00:05:46] black and white ball is the most famous- Chioma Nnadi: True. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Although some people say it wasn't that fun. Chioma Nnadi: Really? Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Wait, should we talk about the cats? Chioma Nnadi: Of course. We must talk about the cats. Derek Blasberg: Or do you wanna... well you guys probably have a process and I don't want to invade. Chioma Nnadi: It's free form, it's free form. Chloe Malle: No, well, we're gonna skip the process. Yeah. We don't have a process. Chioma Nnadi: It's a free form thing. Derek Blasberg: But a round of ap-paws? Chioma Nnadi: Oh. Derek Blasberg: Too soon for- Chloe Malle: I mean, the puns, it's just, uh, they write themselves. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Is it too soon for puns? Chloe Malle: No, no, I think it's just enough. Chioma Nnadi: Do you wanna, do we start with your, your favorites or do you wanna- Derek Blasberg: My favorite cats or the non-feline favorites? Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] The non-fe- Chloe Malle: Let's, let's start with your non-feline favorites. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, non-feline. Derek Blasberg: Because I'm not kitten around. Chioma Nnadi: Oh. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: Ouch. Derek Blasberg: I know. Chioma Nnadi: Prrrr. Derek Blasberg: I know, oh. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Um, I thought Ann Hathaway looked- Chioma Nnadi: Uh, on my list. Derek Blasberg: Incredible. Chloe Malle: Okay. Chioma Nnadi: Yes, on my list. Derek Blasberg: That dress. Chioma Nnadi: The Ann [inaudible 00:06:36] is, is real. Derek Blasberg: And it was, uh, tweed Chanel... the, the Camellias were node, an odd, a node, an ode- Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: And a nod to Karl. Orlando Pita the hairstylist. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, it was good. Derek Blasberg: Did you see this? Chloe Malle: Yeah, it was amazing. Derek Blasberg: Brought a Camellia hairpiece from an old Chanel show. Chloe Malle: Oh wow. Chioma Nnadi: I didn't, I didn't see that. Derek Blasberg: So in the tip of her beehive was, um, I mean, it was fake hair, but you know, it was a, it was a Camellia, which I thought was great. Chloe Malle: Oh wow. Derek Blasberg: And then of course Versace made the dress so the corsetry was fab, there was safety pins everywhere and she was on the arm of Donatella Versace. So, that for me, as a, uh, a self confessed fashion academic checked a lot of boxes. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: I loved Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie. Chloe Malle: Nicole Kidman- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: That was- Chioma Nnadi: That, that dress had a story. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Oh yes. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I mean it was the one that she wore in the famous... that was made for her for that famous ad. Derek Blasberg: Do you remember the sense of occasion when that ad came out? Chloe Malle: It was a 2004 Chanel ad- Chioma Nnadi: It was nuts. Yeah- Chloe Malle: That Karl made the dress for her and it was- Chioma Nnadi: Right. Chloe Malle: Shot by [inaudible 00:07:42]- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: And then they stood on the red carpet together. It was a very charming- Chioma Nnadi: Full circle moment. Derek Blasberg: And they had a premier for the commercial- Chloe Malle: Really? Derek Blasberg: And there was all this- Chloe Malle: I don't remember that. Chioma Nnadi: That part I wasn't a part of. Derek Blasberg: Commotion around how much did they pay and... how much did they pay her and it was a cinematic masterpiece but it was really just a commercial. That's when you went to movie theaters. Remember that? Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: That was the preroll instead of a preview. Chloe Malle: Oh wow, it played in movie theaters. Derek Blasberg: You could not escape that moment and I was happy to be hostage to that. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: I thought Lizzo looked amazing. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, Lizzo did. Derek Blasberg: Both on the red carpet and- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: I, I imagine a lot of video of her performance with the flute has- Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah, yeah. Derek Blasberg: Leaked out today. Chioma Nnadi: I liked Dua Lipa and- Chloe Malle: Yeah, I thought she looked good. Chioma Nnadi: And, and that vintage Chanel I thought was beautiful. Derek Blasberg: There was a lot of buzz around that 100 carat necklace that Ms. Lipa wore. Chioma Nnadi: That was indeed. Yes. Chloe Malle: That, that necklace was stressing me out. Derek Blasberg: You guys must know this, when she walked up, you know, no- normally when you arrive at one of those things with that much jewelry you have a guard. Chloe Malle: You didn't see one? Derek Blasberg: But The Met Gala is so famously no plus one, no PR, no manager, leave your agents at home that you have to have a guard for 100 carat necklace up those stairs? Chioma Nnadi: I'm sure there's one hovering. Uh, uh, I- Chloe Malle: Yeah, I don't know, Nick Brown and I were there as her guard right when she walked in. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Yeah, and you were de- maybe you should have been guarded from. Chioma Nnadi: Yes, that's true. Derek Blasberg: Or maybe you were thinking of- Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: That's true. Derek Blasberg: Swooping in on that. Chioma Nnadi: A heist, I mean, we had Ann Hathaway there. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Exactly. Chloe Malle: It's true. I wonder if the gu- well, this is gonna be like a playbook for how to steal- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Yes. Chloe Malle: At The Met Gala next year. [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: Le- let's not go too deep on this. Derek Blasberg: Or we could just say that I, I feel very safe at The Met Gala. Chioma Nnadi: Yes. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: In fact, I feel so safe sometimes it's like how did I get in here? Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Do I have a wrist band? Is someone gonna scan me? Chioma Nnadi: I know, I mean just to get in this, uh, to drive up the street is a performance. Chloe Malle: The drive, the arrival this year was very intense. Chioma Nnadi: The arrival was quite... yeah. Derek Blasberg: You know what's outrageous? And this is a me personal pla- I live on the east side. Chloe Malle: It's insane that you have to go to the west side. Derek Blasberg: I can walk to The Met. I often walk to The Met. I walked to yesterday's rehearsals and they're like, "Sorry, there's no walk ons." Chloe Malle: It says very clearly pedestrians will not be admitted. Derek Blasberg: Ooo, oh my god, what a nice way to say follow the rules. Chloe Malle: Yup, yup. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: But we'll do anything. We'll do whatever it takes to get in The Met ball. Chloe Malle: We certainly will. I loved, uh, Amanda Harlech came in with- Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah. Chloe Malle: A woman who, uh, runs Karl's label, his own label now, Caroline Lebar. Derek Blasberg: Mm-hmm. Chloe Malle: Do you know her? Derek Blasberg: Yes. Chloe Malle: I'd never met her before. Derek Blasberg: Super chic. Chloe Malle: She's the most chic woman. She's this French woman with short gray sort of salt and pepper hair and she was wearing a Karl-esk suit. But just the most beautifully cut suiting with her robes and she was, I just thought, looked so fabulous. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Derek Blasberg: I've only seen her in a suit, so- Chloe Malle: Well that... there you go, she was on brand. Derek Blasberg: Yeah, but [inaudible 00:10:37] elevate. Chloe Malle: Yeah, she elevated the suit and it had, um, this sort of spleen monogram of KL in script, which I thought was very nice. Um- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, that, that sounds amazing. I missed her. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Lot of pr- Chioma Nnadi: There were some other suits that were quite good. I thought Kristen Stewart looked [inaudible 00:10:53]. Chloe Malle: Oh yeah, she was the best dressed for me. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, she looked good. Derek Blasberg: And she came with Sofia Coppola, who looked fabulous. Chloe Malle: But you know who, uh, we didn't talk about? The big, I feel like one of the more exciting, my like, "Ah," moments was Brittney Griner on the red carpet. Chioma Nnadi: Oh god, yeah. In co- in custom Calvin. Chloe Malle: My big, like, two shock like, "Ah," moments were Brittney Griner- Derek Blasberg: But I'm not, but I- Chloe Malle: And Nicolas Sarkozy. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Was Nicolas Sarkozy there? Chioma Nnadi: Was he there? Chloe Malle: I swear to God someone who looked like him was- Chioma Nnadi: Stop it. Chloe Malle: With Carla Bruni. Derek Blasberg: Well Carla Bruni was there. Chloe Malle: No, but some- I, I, I'm telling you- Chioma Nnadi: It can't have been him. Derek Blasberg: Can we have a fact check before we falsely identify someone as the former president of France just trolling around- Chloe Malle: Who's also, like, indited- Chioma Nnadi: [inaudible 00:11:29]. Chloe Malle: And I thought was in prison. Chioma Nnadi: I don't, I don't think it's him. Derek Blasberg: I don't think it... but it was definitely Brittney Griner. You're... half of that is right. There was a sweet moment between Dwayne Wade and Brittney Griner. Chloe Malle: Oh yeah, that was cute. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, I loved- Derek Blasberg: Which I was sort of touched by, obviously we love Brittney because she has survived such, uh, surreal circumstances and Dwayne has, uh, a trans daughter- Chioma Nnadi: Yup. Derek Blasberg: And it was- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: You know, and these both came up in professional athletics and dealing with such- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Traumatic circumstances, I thought it was- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: It was just, I guess shared- Chioma Nnadi: I loved that. Derek Blasberg: And you know sometimes you don't even have to chat with someone to- Chloe Malle: Yeah. And then- Chioma Nnadi: That's so cool. Chloe Malle: Around the same time, or right at the end of the red carpet was the insane, uh, Jeremy Pope moment with the Karl Lagerfeld- Chioma Nnadi: That was Velma. Chloe Malle: Velma? Enormous cape that looked almost like a- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: Football field with Karl Lagerfeld's illustration on it. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I love it when the guys kind of go there. Chloe Malle: Jeremy Pope is the actor who's currently playing [inaudible 00:12:30] on Broadway right? Or did that show close? Derek Blasberg: I went and saw it. Chloe Malle: Was it good? Chioma Nnadi: How was it? Derek Blasberg: I think the show is no longer running- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: But I think Jeremy Pope is so handsome and so charming and so sweet- Chioma Nnadi: Mm. Chloe Malle: He really went for it. Derek Blasberg: I was happy that he- I don't think he knew Karl so I was happy that he, um, had a moment- Chloe Malle: Leaned in? Derek Blasberg: On the carpet in his memory. Olivia of course knew Karl. Chioma Nnadi: Yes. Derek Blasberg: And not to get too down that fashion academia track, but it was great to see so many designers of houses that Karl had built his name on. Chioma Nnadi: Mm. Derek Blasberg: [inaudible 00:13:01] from [inaudible 00:13:03] is there. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Gabriella Hurst from Chloe was there. Stella McCartney told me a amusing story. So Chloe, uh, obviously replaced Karl Lagerfeld with Stella McCartney and his clip, his biting comment at the time was, "I was hoping they would replace me with a big name, I just thought it would be a big name from fashion and not music." Chloe Malle: That's funny. Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah. Derek Blasberg: Zing- Chioma Nnadi: Zing. Derek Blasberg: For Karl. Chioma Nnadi: He, he was very good at zinging. Derek Blasberg: And of course Virgini was there- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, yeah. Derek Blasberg: Who succeeded him. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: And Chanel. Um, it was nice to see so many fashion folks who have really so much, uh, to give Karl celebrate there tonight. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, it was really nice. I thought Billy looked great. Chloe Malle: What was she wearing? Chioma Nnadi: She was wearing custom Simon Rocha- Derek Blasberg: Simone. Chloe Malle: Oh right. Chioma Nnadi: And I, I ran into Simon at one of the after parties afterwords and that was actually the first custom work that Simon has, has done for The Met. I thought it was beautiful. I thought Elle Fanning looked ethereal. She walked in in this beautiful... she had like mini daisies in her hair, a crown of mini daisies. Chloe Malle: What was she wearing? Chioma Nnadi: She was wearing Vivian Westwood- Chloe Malle: Okay. Chioma Nnadi: This white lace dress. Derek Blasberg: But I have some scoop on the daisies. Chioma Nnadi: Oh do you? Derek Blasberg: When she was 13 years old- Chioma Nnadi: Yes. Derek Blasberg: Karl Lagerfeld shot her for that book, The Little Black Jacket. Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah, I remember that book. Derek Blasberg: He had just met her and he said that you remind me of an angel in the field, so I'm gonna put these daisies in your hair. And so tonight as a, as a tribute to Karl, she decided to bring back her daisy crown and go up the steps in it. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, I love that story. What were some of the interesting stories behind the looks that you hear? Because I think a lot of people who attended had personal relationships with Karl. Um, you know, I love that story. Were there others that you, that you sort of picked up on? Derek Blasberg: Um, we talked to Cara Delevingne about her relationship with Karl. Chioma Nnadi: Hm. Derek Blasberg: And I would say her whole look was inspired by his, um, uniform. She was in a starched collar, turned it into a dress, the fingerless gloves, she came in wearing his trademarked sunglasses, which I thought was great. Chioma Nnadi: Mm. Me too. Derek Blasberg: Um, you know, and she got a little whimsical. I think that she credits Karl with really building her career and she said it was tough to walk through the exhibit and see so many dresses that she remembers wearing but also so many of the dresses that obviously were created before her time, before any of our time. Um, in that exhibit you see seven decades- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, unbelievable. Derek Blasberg: Of creations. Another sort of Karl connection that I thought was fabulous, Gabriella Hurst arrived with Vanessa Kirby. Chloe Malle: Oliva Wilde. Chioma Nnadi: Olivia Wilde. Chloe Malle: And Maude Apatow. Derek Blasberg: And there was a... exactly, and Maude Apatow. And she put them all in iconic Karl designed Chloe dresses. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: She had the violin dress- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: She had the shower dress. Maude was wearing the arrow dress. Chioma Nnadi: Hm. Derek Blasberg: Which actually was a nod to Karl's cheeky sense of humor. It was an arrow pointing to a- Chloe Malle: Nether region? Derek Blasberg: Specific area. An erotic zone on a female. Chioma Nnadi: Oh. Derek Blasberg: And Gabriella herself was wearing a dress made to look like a guitar. Chloe Malle: Mm-hmm. Derek Blasberg: So I admired that they really doubled down on the, on the Karl theme too. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Tommy Hilfiger was wearing a shirt that Karl Lagerfeld actually gave him. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Chloe Malle: Oh wow, that's cool. Chioma Nnadi: That's cool. Derek Blasberg: He was dressed in a fabric from Chanel, apparently one of the last Chanel fabrics from when Karl was still alive. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Chloe Malle: wow. Derek Blasberg: So he made a suit and that fabric and then at some point Karl had given him an extremely high starched collared shirt which is wife said couldn't... she couldn't figure it out. You know, they had to get a couple other people in there. Chloe Malle: Oh my god. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: One of those really stiff ones, which we all, by the way, all of us on our computers all day, 100% did a Karl Lagerfeld stiff collar. Chloe Malle: Yes, it's true. Derek Blasberg: To get our- Chioma Nnadi: My tech neck, to get my tech to fix my tech neck. Derek Blasberg: To get a tech neck correction. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Um, and it took a couple people for them to button it down. Chioma Nnadi: Whoa. Chloe Malle: Wait, I think we have to move onto the cats. Chioma Nnadi: I think you're right. Okay, it's time for the cats. Chloe Malle: Let's do the cats. I don't want the cats to take over, but- Chioma Nnadi: There was also a cockroach. I don't know if you wanna put that in. Chloe Malle: Oh, I saw the cockroach. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: Ann's probably not gonna be happy. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: I saw the cockroach live because- Chloe Malle: Oh wow. Derek Blasberg: That cockroach- Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Came up the carpet while we were waiting for someone else. So all eyes on the carpet and who pops up? Chioma Nnadi: Oh dear. Derek Blasberg: It was very Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Chloe Malle: Wow. Derek Blasberg: Just to see a giant cockroach come down the steps. Chioma Nnadi: Well they always come out before the rain, so that was- Derek Blasberg: There we go. Chioma Nnadi: That was to be expected. Chloe Malle: Oh. Derek Blasberg: A tribute to New York. [laughs] Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: But I'm happy to go to the kennel, Chloe. Chloe Malle: Let's do it. Derek Blasberg: Let's see what kitties we have. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Chloe Malle: Well first of all there was the big announcement on Choupette's Instagram yesterday that after much speculation, she would not be attending and walking the red carpet. Chioma Nnadi: But is she... can we just clarify, so Choupette is apr- approximately how old? Chloe Malle: I think she's like 10, no? Chioma Nnadi: 11, right? Chloe Malle: Okay. Chioma Nnadi: Approximately because- Derek Blasberg: But do we have cat years the same way we have dog years? Chioma Nnadi: Well- Chloe Malle: Years. Chioma Nnadi: I think one of, one of- Derek Blasberg: You're saying she's 11 human years. Chloe Malle: Yes. Derek Blasberg: I'm wondering- Chioma Nnadi: A former colleague, a former colleague is, is cat person. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Leonna and she, she posted about this and she... a lot of people think that Choupette is not the real Choupette. Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: That perhaps this is a replacement- Derek Blasberg: Shots fir- you, the internet- Chloe Malle: Oh my god. Derek Blasberg: God bless you. God bless what happens to you. Check your DMs. Wow. Chioma Nnadi: But, she- Derek Blasberg: [inaudible 00:18:29]. Chioma Nnadi: Did some calculations and she figured out the breed of cat and apparently the cat is 11 years old so it's towards the end. It's like definitely past middle age. Chloe Malle: Cats can live until 17. Chioma Nnadi: But this breed specifically I think- Chloe Malle: Oh okay. Chioma Nnadi: Lives 'till 14. Listen, uh, I- Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: You know, we, we, we will go and fact check all of this, but- Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: Yes. So, but yeah, Choupette didn't make it, but there were many ohmages to Choupette. Derek Blasberg: Well I have, I have some specific Choupette kitty gossip. Chioma Nnadi: Okay, oo, dish. Derek Blasberg: If you wanna dig in. Chioma Nnadi: Spill that tea. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: There was a moment when Kim Kardashian was gonna bring Choupette as her date. Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah, I saw the Instagram. Derek Blasberg: And do the steps with him. Chioma Nnadi: I saw that. Derek Blasberg: And she posted some pictures on her, on her own account of her dealing with the cat. Chioma Nnadi: Right. Derek Blasberg: It was not a love affair. Kim actually text messaged me a video of the cat kind of going berserk and swatting at her and, and clawing her. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Which I would sort of obviously be like, "Oh my god, there's your moment." Like a real cat fight on the red carpet. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Kim vs. Choupette. But I think she made the right choice to leave the kitty at home. Chioma Nnadi: I'm like good, could you imagine she'd have, like, after having all the Marilyn Monroe fans after her, she'd have so many animal rights people. Chloe Malle: Yeah, she really- Chioma Nnadi: A cat is not an accessory, na na na na. Derek Blasberg: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: I mean, I'm not... yeah, anyway, I'll leave that conversation there. Derek Blasberg: Do you think Jared Leto and Doja Cat and Lil Nas X will also be burdened with cats are not fashion conversations? Chioma Nnadi: Mm- Chloe Malle: No. Chioma Nnadi: But I just thought it was verging on the- Chloe Malle: I mean- Derek Blasberg: The costume party, right? [laughs] Chloe Malle: I don't think PITA's gonna be upset. Chioma Nnadi: No. Chloe Malle: But I think we're gonna be upset. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Right. Chloe Malle: But I also wanna know who made Jared's thing? Like did he go to Spirit Halloween? Like what, where did that come from? Chioma Nnadi: I have no de- I have no, uh, info on, on his. Derek Blasberg: He probably has some connections into the realistic cat... well we could have asked James Gordon, who was famously in Cats. Chloe Malle: Oh good call. Chioma Nnadi: Oh my goodness. Derek Blasberg: I sort of, I sort of thought there was gonna be a Cats musical tribute. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Chloe Malle: Oh, that would have been a nice Choupette tie in. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Just an idea. No mask [inaudible 00:20:27]. Chloe Malle: So Jared Leto came in a full cat suit. Chioma Nnadi: Right. Chloe Malle: Nothing subtle there. Chioma Nnadi: No. Chloe Malle: Little Nas X, it took Pat McGarth nine hours to turn him into a cat. Chioma Nnadi: Wa- Doja Cat. Derek Blasberg: Sh- I think she had full- Chioma Nnadi: She had a prosthetic. Derek Blasberg: Prosthetics. Chioma Nnadi: She had prosthetics that had been months in the making. Derek Blasberg: Puss th- puss-thetics? Is there a pun here that we're not- Chioma Nnadi: Ooo. Derek Blasberg: Too early. Sorry guys, sorry. Chioma Nnadi: Clutching my pearls. Derek Blasberg: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: Jesus. But I, I spoke to Li- Lil Nas X was on the carpet as I was arriving. Chloe Malle: No he was a cat. Chioma Nnadi: He was a cat? Chloe Malle: He was wearing- Chioma Nnadi: Many pearls, yeah. Chloe Malle: He has whiskers. Chioma Nnadi: And he could barely talk but he was so excited and he looked amazing, but he co- his, his lips were literally encrusted with jewels. Chloe Malle: That doesn't seem good for you. I'm sorry. Derek Blasberg: But he was also meowing. I don't think he... he identified as a cat, Chloe, and I don't want you to misidentify him. Chloe Malle: Yeah, he definitely... I agree. Chioma Nnadi: Fine, I, I, I think Lil Nas X is incredible. Chloe Malle: I'm team cat. Derek Blasberg: Doja Cat was also responding to questions on the interview. God bless Emma Chamberlain who I love- Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Who was interviewing Doja Cat and she responded to every question with a series of cat noises. Chioma Nnadi: No. Chloe Malle: No. Derek Blasberg: Yes. Chloe Malle: Oh that is incredible. Chioma Nnadi: I missed that moment. Derek Blasberg: Yes. Check your DMs. When I wake up after I take a nap from this interview- Chioma Nnadi: I mean, it's so her. Derek Blasberg: I'll send it to you. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Chloe Malle: Oh my god. Chioma Nnadi: I'm personally living for that. [laughs] Chloe Malle: Fancy, Fancy Feast. Wait, I'm sorry, did Dua Lipa change? Derek Blasberg: Yes. Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: She changed from that big white Chanel- Chioma Nnadi: Oh, I didn't see the second look. Derek Blasberg: Ensemble. When she made the speech during dinner. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, that's true. Yeah. Derek Blasberg: She was in a little black dress. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: I thought McKayla looked beautiful in Schiaparelli too. Derek Blasberg: She looked fantastic. Chloe Malle: Yeah, she really looked great. Chioma Nnadi: She, and she was such an incredible host. Like, she just was, was like talking to everybody and being very welcoming and I think- Derek Blasberg: She has such incredible presence. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, she does. Derek Blasberg: She could host anything. Chioma Nnadi: [inaudible 00:22:10]. Derek Blasberg: You could ask her every year. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Anna, are you listening? Chioma Nnadi: She's coming back. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: We gotta get her back. Derek Blasberg: Bring her back. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Chloe Malle: And there were a few, speaking of other, uh, podcast guests we've had, there were a couple of pregnancy reveals last night. Chioma Nnadi: Oh, yes indeed. Chloe Malle: Serena. Chioma Nnadi: Serena. Derek Blasberg: And Karlie Kloss. Chioma Nnadi: And Karlie Kloss. Chloe Malle: And Karlie Kloss. Chioma Nnadi: What was she wearing? She was wearing, uh- Derek Blasberg: Karlie was wearing a- Chloe Malle: [inaudible 00:22:31] right? Derek Blasberg: Johnathan Anderson recreated- Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Derek Blasberg: An originally Karl dress as a silk screen on a sort of crushed velvet- Chioma Nnadi: How, how chic. Derek Blasberg: Clingy body con dress. Chioma Nnadi: I missed her. Derek Blasberg: And what was Serena wearing? I love Serena Williams, guys. Chloe Malle: I know, me too. Chioma Nnadi: Ah, she's just- Chloe Malle: She was wearing Gucci. Chioma Nnadi: Oh right, I didn't, I didn't catch that [inaudible 00:22:48]. Derek Blasberg: I was once next to her in a paparazzi picture and I was misidentified as her husband. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Did you ever see this? Chloe Malle: You and Alexis don't look dissimilar. Chioma Nnadi: I see it. Derek Blasberg: Sure, okay. And so now every time I see her I'm like, "Oh, big news for us." Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: "Number two on the way." Chioma Nnadi: I'm melting into the ground. [laughs] Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: And her husbands like, "Go," like, "We don't know you. Go away, security." [inaudible 00:23:12] I'm someone. Chioma Nnadi: Let's talk about the guys. Derek Blasberg: But that they- Chloe Malle: Pedro Pascal. Chioma Nnadi: No, not for me. Chloe Malle: No, it was... I di- it was not for me either. Derek Blasberg: We can- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I mean I think, I think great to take the risk. Um, I thought many men took the risk, like can we talk about that? Chloe Malle: I never need to see a men's thigh. Derek Blasberg: Guys, Karl never wore shorts, even as a baby. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Never. Dress for Karl, shorts. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Famously he asked for, you know, Karl Lagerfeld, fun fact, when he was 12 years old asked for a valet. Someone to come in and dress him. Chioma Nnadi: You're kidding me. Derek Blasberg: He would not be wearing shorts. Chioma Nnadi: No. Chloe Malle: Yeah, I agree. Chioma Nnadi: No. Derek Blasberg: But again, he came with Valentino. Chioma Nnadi: Yes. Derek Blasberg: And I think maybe that was what the Valentio Atelier thought Pedro Pascal- Chioma Nnadi: Rihanna looked great in Valentino. Derek Blasberg: She looked fantastic. Chioma Nnadi: I mean, I mean I, I love the look that she wore the night before. Chloe Malle: Oh my gosh, I know. Chioma Nnadi: Also she wore this... incredible- Derek Blasberg: [inaudible 00:24:01] Chioma Nnadi: Chanel look- Derek Blasberg: Yes. Chioma Nnadi: That was just... it was just such a beautiful taste of what was to come, so she teased out that she was coming, but I thought she looked fabulous and there was kind of two looks in one, right? Derek Blasberg: Do people do that now? They tease their Met look the day before or? Chioma Nnadi: I mean, re- Rihanna, everybody follows her, so I'm sure this will become a trend. Chloe Malle: She does her own thing. Anything exciting happen in cocktails for you, Chioma? Chioma Nnadi: Um, I didn't, I didn't stay in cocktails long, no, but I felt that, um... dinner was quite magical- Chloe Malle: Okay. Chioma Nnadi: And seeing... so, um, Lizzo performed. Chloe Malle: Okay. Chioma Nnadi: And I'd actually never seen her perform live and she has so much presence. Um, and she brought out, uh, a fla- a flutist and, uh, and I think he must have been someone in the, the, the flutist community because he was quite old but very, very talented and- Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Sorry, I should know this. And it was so beautiful and as a child, I wanted to play the flute so bad so- Derek Blasberg: Did you really? Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I did. Chloe Malle: Oh wow, so this really brought things home for you. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: Any other fashion overlines that were interesting? I loved seeing all of the, like, Chanel codes, uh, of accessory sort of popping up. There were tons of black bows in people's hair, lots of Camellias, tons of pearls, it was just fun to see the way people interpreted that. Kim wore her Schiaparelli. Chioma Nnadi: 50,000 pearls. Chloe Malle: What? Derek Blasberg: She to- she told me they were real pearls. Chloe Malle: What? Derek Blasberg: And she told me that when she was leaving the house, some were falling off and North West was running around and picking them up and, "I'm gonna make my own necklace." Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Derek Blasberg: Which I thought was very clever. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. That was a very adorable picture of her and North West. Uh, I think it must have been in the lobby of, of the hotel, maybe the Mark or The Carlyle. She was definitely dressed for the theme too. It was pretty cute. Derek Blasberg: Oh that's great. Chloe Malle: Mm-hmm. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: I, I also think it's nice that last night gave a lot of opportunities for New York sort of society women to rewear- Chioma Nnadi: Oh my God- Derek Blasberg: The Chanel dress. Chioma Nnadi: Lauren Santo Domingo looked amazing. We forgot to talk about her in the- Derek Blasberg: You guys, you follow Lauren Santo Domingo on Instagram? Chioma Nnadi: Yes. Chloe Malle: Oh, the picture. Derek Blasberg: She was blessed to do the carpet at the same time as Lil Nas X. Chioma Nnadi: Oh my god, it was- Derek Blasberg: And there she was, Lauren Santo Domingo- Chioma Nnadi: The best photo of the night. Derek Blasberg: Climbing the stairs- Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: In her Chanel couture dress with its draped sleeves- Chioma Nnadi: So good. Derek Blasberg: Straps, open back, and she swoops around and sees Lil Nas X's bare naked ass covered in silver body glitter. [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, I know. He's got a nice butt. Chloe Malle: And it's a really exquisite photo that will launch- Derek Blasberg: Great. Chloe Malle: 1000 memes. Derek Blasberg: And Lil Nas X also posted it. Chloe Malle: Oh my god. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: The chic on him- Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Hey, get it? Chioma Nnadi: Ba dum che. Chloe Malle: No, but it's true. Fabiola Beracasa was wearing her mother's 1994 Chanel couture. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Chloe Malle: It, it's fun to see that. Derek Blasberg: Jill Cardman who's father- Chloe Malle: Jill Cardman. Derek Blasberg: Used to be the CEO of Chanel. She wrote a show called ol- Odd Mom Out on HBO. She was wearing her wedding dress which was Chanel. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Wow. Chloe Malle: No, it was, it was... and Bee Shaffer was wearing a Chanel dress that she wore to the Anglomania Met Gala 15 years ago. Chioma Nnadi: Love. Chloe Malle: I love, that was, it's fun to see that. Now coming up, I wanna hear all about how these two fresh daisies churned through five after parties, each of them. We'll be back in just a moment. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Chloe Malle: Okay, so map out for me where you guys headed from The Met steps. Derek Blasberg: So it's true you went home? Chloe Malle: I went home. Derek Blasberg: Just tucked in- tucked into the sheets? Chloe Malle: That's right. Derek Blasberg: Wow, that's so exotic to me. Chloe Malle: I know. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Chloe Malle: It was thrilling. Derek Blasberg: To get all dressed up and then crawl into bed? Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chloe Malle: Yeah. I love it. Chioma Nnadi: I fantasized about that in my mind for like two seconds and then I was like, "Nah, I'm gonna go out." [laughs] Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: It's easier. I should point out, I wear flat shoes. Chioma Nnadi: Right. Chloe Malle: I have to say like my feet were really hurting. Chioma Nnadi: My feet weren't hurting. My feet weren't. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: So I, um, this is also probably more information than I should be revealing on a podcast. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: When I was doing my live streaming duties, the crotch of my tuxedo ripped. Chloe Malle: Ah. Chioma Nnadi: What? Stop it all. I'm always, I live in fear of a wardrobe malfunction at the- Derek Blasberg: Well, I lived it. Chioma Nnadi: Oh god. Derek Blasberg: And I never changed. Obviously men- Chioma Nnadi: Right. Derek Blasberg: It's a black suit, it's not crazy. Chioma Nnadi: Right. Derek Blasberg: But I did run home, put on jeans to protect the- Chioma Nnadi: Oh I love that. Derek Blasberg: Integrity of- Chloe Malle: Oh, there you go. Derek Blasberg: Of my crotch and I almost hopped on the subway because- Chloe Malle: It would have been faster. Chioma Nnadi: It would have been quicker. Derek Blasberg: Uptown was so gridlocked on The Met Gala and you know-= Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: They close roads and they have to reopen roads and there's fans and street sanctions because most of the parties, Dua Lipa's party, uh, Stella McCartney's party with Baz Luhrmann, Puff Daddy had a party, Ann Hathaway and Jeremy Strong had a party. Chloe Malle: Yeah, where, what's that pairing? Derek Blasberg: They were all... they just did a movie together. Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: I don't know it's name. Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: And I didn't see it. Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: But I know that they are on a movie poster together. Chloe Malle: All right, great. Derek Blasberg: They, their party was at The Nines. Chioma Nnadi: I didn't know about that one. There was a na- Derek Blasberg: The party that was- Chioma Nnadi: That one missed me, passed me by. Derek Blasberg: It was actually Carols Nazario and Polomo- Chioma Nnadi: I went to that one. Derek Blasberg: They did a pa- there were so many parties last night. Chioma Nnadi: Yup, yup. Derek Blasberg: Um, but most people at least stopped into the Chanel party that was at the Mercer. Chioma Nnadi: I did so, yeah. I did. Chloe Malle: How was that? Derek Blasberg: The Mercer, the me- the Mercer just had a refurbishment- Chioma Nnadi: It was fun, yeah. Chloe Malle: Okay. Oh right, they were closed for a while, right? Derek Blasberg: They, they were closed for a long time. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: And I grew up, uh, go- you know, I went to NYU so my formative New York years were all in that neighborhood and- Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah. Derek Blasberg: So I've sort of like [inaudible 00:29:40] to go back to this hotel that was the most, you know- Chloe Malle: And why the- Derek Blasberg: Fancy- Chloe Malle: Did Karl stay at the Mercer when he came to New York? Derek Blasberg: And that's the connection. Chioma Nnadi: I see. Derek Blasberg: That was his hotel of choice. Chioma Nnadi: Okay. Chloe Malle: Okay. Chioma Nnadi: That makes sense. Derek Blasberg: And he took a lot of pictures there. There was a Chanel champaign shot on Mercer Street from- Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: The fire escapes. Um, I know that Chanel was having a hard time finding a venue- Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: And they were at first looking at the Ukrainian Embassy- Chloe Malle: Right. Derek Blasberg: Which is on 79th street and ultimately they thought let's just do it at the Mercer, Karl loved it here. It's a long drive but- Chloe Malle: It's fine. Derek Blasberg: It feels right. Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: And it, and it, I think all the pa- it was, I mean you could literally go all- Chloe Malle: It's a slow migration, yeah. Chioma Nnadi: You can basically stop at different various points along Manhattan. Derek Blasberg: And I think people wanted to have fun. On the dance floor at the Chanel Party I saw Penelope Cruz and Giselle having a little- Chioma Nnadi: Um- Derek Blasberg: Dance off. Chloe Malle: Great. Derek Blasberg: I then saw them go to the next party. Stella McCartney had a party up the road at Zero Bond with Baz Luhrmann. Chioma Nnadi: Right. Derek Blasberg: So they got together there. Um- Chloe Malle: Chioma, what was your itinerary? Chioma Nnadi: So I started at actually at The Carlyle, Cartier had a party. Chloe Malle: 'Kay. Chioma Nnadi: Um, which was very, it was fun, it was very low key, it was very cozy. Uh, then I went to the Chanel party which was really fun. Um, and it was, it was quite packed actually by the time I got there. I think I saw, as I was leaving, Giselle was arriving and Usher and then I went to, uh, Carlos Nazario and Polomos' party which was really fun. Chloe Malle: Where was that? Derek Blasberg: Those were all downtown, so at least you're being- Chioma Nnadi: All downtown. I sort of kept going. I missed Boom Boom which is usually... used to, at one point was the official after party. Derek Blasberg: And Janelle Monáe hosted the party there. Chioma Nnadi: Janelle Mo- and, and sang and Kaytranada Djed, so I ha- you know- Chloe Malle: You're not- Derek Blasberg: You can't be everywhere at once, Chioma. Chioma Nnadi: Can't be everywhere at once. So I th- I've done the Boom Boom many times, so let me branch out. Go deeper, deeper downtown. Chloe Malle: Widen your horizons. Chioma Nnadi: Broaden my- Derek Blasberg: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: So yeah, that was really fun and then I, I went to this venue called Lucy's because Michaela Coel was hosting a party and she'd asked me to come. Derek Blasberg: Chioma, when did, did you come straight her? Chloe Malle: Yeah, seriously. Derek Blasberg: This is the fifth... you, you're putting me to shame. Chioma Nnadi: I, I'm not, I'm not done. Derek Blasberg: I only did three. Chioma Nnadi: I'm not done. Chloe Malle: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: Then- Derek Blasberg: Bravo. Chioma Nnadi: Then- Derek Blasberg: Sheppo. Chioma Nnadi: To, to cap off my night, because I was feeling nostalgic and reminded me of when I used to go out many moons ago when I first came to New York, I ended up at Puffy's party. Derek Blasberg: You went to The Box? Chioma Nnadi: It was absolutely chaos. Chloe Malle: Oh my god. Chioma Nnadi: I literally was like squeezed in. I had to, I had to fold my dress in front of me and carry it like I was a pregnant lady. Chloe Malle: Oh. Derek Blasberg: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: It was absolute chaos, but for the singalong, it was kind of worth it. Um- Chloe Malle: What was, what was the singalong? Chioma Nnadi: I mean, it was just like 90s, like, hip hop and R and B jams. Chloe Malle: Oh, oh, he wasn't singing along? Chioma Nnadi: And, and, no, but he, he always MCs. Derek Blasberg: He gets on the mic, yeah. Chioma Nnadi: He gets on the mic, he MCs. Chloe Malle: Wow. Chioma Nnadi: So it's a really kind of... and, you know, like Busta Rhymes was there and Ice Spice and Chris Rock and it was just kind of like, you know? Derek Blasberg: I spoke to Naomi Campbell and she said that party starts at 1:00. Chioma Nnadi: So I got there quite... I mean this was the last stop. Derek Blasberg: What time did you get there? Chioma Nnadi: It was a real struggle to get in though, I had to really, like, pull every string. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Did you sleep at home? Did you sleep here at the office? Chioma Nnadi: Mm-hmm, I had about two hours of sleep. Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chloe Malle: Wait, you haven't answered what time you got there. Chioma Nnadi: 3:00. Derek Blasberg: Wow. Chloe Malle: Wow, Chioma, I'm impressed. Derek Blasberg: I was- Chioma Nnadi: So am I, I was like, "I'm gonna be in bed by-" I, I kept... the goalpost kept moving. I was like, "I'm gonna go home by one." "I'm gonna go home by two." "I'm gonna go home by three." Derek Blasberg: 3:00 was my curfew. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: And I made it. Chioma Nnadi: It's a good curfew. Derek Blasberg: And I made it. Chioma Nnadi: Okay. Derek Blasberg: But I, I will say- Chloe Malle: And Derek, what was your itinerary? Derek Blasberg: I went, uh, I went from The Met... we popped into Cartier. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: I changed my pants. Chloe Malle: Okay. Derek Blasberg: Then I went to Chanel, then we went to Zero Bond and then Nines and then back up town. Chioma Nnadi: I love The Nines. I like it as a ve- just as a venue. Derek Blasberg: It's got a chic interior. Chioma Nnadi: Isn't it cool? Derek Blasberg: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: It feels like Paris. Derek Blasberg: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: The Nines feels like, like a piano bar in Paris. Derek Blasberg: I, um, you know, I curated the Ritz Hotel- Chioma Nnadi: Did you? Derek Blasberg: Collaboration with the fe- fraying denim and we celebrated it at The Nines- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, great venue. Derek Blasberg: Because to your point, it feels like a sexy French night. Chioma Nnadi: Doesn't it? Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Yup. I need to... sorry. [laughs] This is why I'm so hoarse, guys. Derek Blasberg: Now we know, geez. Chloe Malle: Yeah, I'm impressed. My favorite part of The Met Gala is seeing, like, all the ex-flames sort of navigating around each other. Chioma Nnadi: Oh yeah, there was... I mean pe- Pete Davidson and Kim definitely had a run in. Derek Blasberg: Leo and Giselle at Stavos. Chloe Malle: With Usher. Chioma Nnadi: Really? Derek Blasberg: Yeah. Chloe Malle: Ah, swoon. Derek Blasberg: It's a small town. Chioma Nnadi: Giselle looked incredible. I mean t- first like, you know, post-divorce drama outing, I thought she just looked like... just divine. Derek Blasberg: And to see her on a dance floor, to see Giselle- Chioma Nnadi: Does she dance? Derek Blasberg: Oh. Chioma Nnadi: She loves to dance, doesn't she. Derek Blasberg: She didn't dance. She radiated, Chioma. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: It was something else. It was really something else. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: And my boyfriend, Nick Brown who Chloe's known for many, many years, he's often the one that's like, "Let's go, it's time to go, you have to work tomorrow." Chioma Nnadi: You need someone like that by your side. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: And Giselle's like, "Do you guys wanna dance?" And he's like, "Yeah." Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: Oh I love that. Like when Giselle asks you to dance, you must say yes. Derek Blasberg: There is only one answer to any question Giselle asks. Chloe Malle: She's- Derek Blasberg: This is the last picture on my phone from [inaudible 00:34:53]. Chioma Nnadi: Ah. Derek Blasberg: Have you ever seen a happier person? Chloe Malle: I've never seen Nick look happier even with his newborns. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Radiant. What, what kids? Chloe Malle: Yeah, exactly. Chioma Nnadi: They both look stunning. Derek Blasberg: Who's kids? Chioma Nnadi: They look, they, they both look stunning. It's a great picture. Derek Blasberg: Yeah, yeah. Never seen him happier. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Never. Chioma Nnadi: He looks like he just won the lottery. Chloe Malle: It's a picture of Derek's boyfriend, Nick, glowing- Derek Blasberg: Radiant. Chloe Malle: With Giselle- Chioma Nnadi: Yeah. Chloe Malle: Bündchen. Chioma Nnadi: And, and she has that flush of just, of I've just danced but I look hot and- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Chioma Nnadi: Nothing's out of place. Derek Blasberg: One thing I will say, I did go to the women's room- Chloe Malle: Yes? Derek Blasberg: Just once. You know, there was a moment in Met Gala history when all the action went down- Chloe Malle: Yeah. Derek Blasberg: In the loos and that's no longer the case. Chioma Nnadi: Really? No scene? Derek Blasberg: Met Security will be happy to hear there's no more smoking, there's no more heavy conversation. But I heard a voice that was familiar when I was walking towards the mens and it was Karlie Kloss, who's one of my oldest friends, we grew up in the same small town, and I was like, "Oh, we [inaudible 00:35:47]." So I popped in there and there was Karlie and Serena Williams- Chioma Nnadi: Oh. Derek Blasberg: Bumping their little baby bumps. Chloe Malle: Oh my god, that is adorable. Chioma Nnadi: That's so cute. That's so sweet. Derek Blasberg: And Serena was wearing that long dress, and she was like, "Do you mind, it's-" Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, there were three pregnant ladies. [inaudible 00:35:59] was pregnant. Chloe Malle: I'm sorry, you held up Serena's dress while she peed? Derek Blasberg: I did not. Chloe Malle: Okay. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: But I listened intently and- Chioma Nnadi: It's hard, it's hard when- Derek Blasberg: The most famous athlete in history. Chloe Malle: Tinkle of all time. Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Tinkled in her, in her dress at The Met Gala and that was my highlight. Chioma Nnadi: That's a highlight. Derek Blasberg: Well, thanks for having me and- Chloe Malle: [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: [laughs] Derek Blasberg: We'll see you next year. [laughs] Chioma Nnadi: Please come back next year, Derek. [laughs] Derek Blasberg: Well I'm seeing you guys later this week. Chioma Nnadi: Yeah, we're excited. Chloe Malle: Yes, I'm very excited. Chioma Nnadi: We're gonna bring our colleagues, we're making it a whole field trip. Derek Blasberg: Oh really? You will be obliged. I will give you drinks, I'll give you a private tour. Chioma Nnadi: I love [inaudible 00:36:31], are you kidding me? Derek Blasberg: On Thursday- Chloe Malle: Yeah, so how did that... your... 'cause you work with Gagosian and did you come up with that idea or was that something that they've been working on for awhile? Derek Blasberg: So, Richard Avedon, who we all know, one of the most iconic photographers of the second half of the 20th century who started his career at Bazaar in the 50s and 60s and did so many incredible pictures here at Vogue in the 70s with Diana Vreeland, he turns 100, he would have turned 100 years old on [inaudible 00:36:57]- Chloe Malle: Oh, so that's the- Derek Blasberg: On May 15th of this year. Chloe Malle: Okay.
